United Arab Emirates reported this Saturday that Iran would have fired a missile at a cargo ship linked to the Emirati state oil company while crossing the Strait of Hormuz, an incident that has resulted in no injuries.
For now, the Emirati government has not provided further details about the event and Tehran has not issued any official reaction either. The British maritime agency UKMTO, dependent on the Royal Navy and responsible for monitoring security episodes in the Hormuz area, has not released any report about what happened so far.
In any case, and following the line of other similar episodes, the Government of the Emirates has classified this "hostile attack by Iran" as a new "flagrant violation" of the Security Council resolutions regarding freedom of navigation, and has emphasized that the actions carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard constitute "an act of piracy."
Iran, for its part, has reiterated since it took control of the strait that the transit of vessels is strictly conditioned to its rules and that all ships must follow the route set by the maritime authorities of Tehran.
