At least one person has lost their life and six others have been injured in the last few hours as a result of a new series of bombings carried out by Russian forces against Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, according to the city's mayor, Vitali Klitschko, who reported this on Monday.
The mayor has specified on his official channels that an attack in the Desnianski district has caused the death of a 21-year-old woman. The initial balance of the injured rises to three people, two of whom were taken to a hospital by emergency services, while the rest were treated at the scene of the attack.
The impacts of missiles and intercepted debris have been recorded in several strategic points and residential areas of the capital, which has forced the deployment of rescue teams. In Desnianski, one of the projectiles hit the building of a medical center, while in the Dniprovski district, damage has occurred to facilities and grounds of non-residential buildings.
In the Solomianski district, the debris from the projectiles has directly hit the first floor of a 25-story apartment block, an incident that has left three injured treated on-site by medical personnel. In this same area, the bombings have also affected a second non-residential building.
The public transport network of Kiev has also been seriously affected by this offensive. Klitschko has pointed out that a metro station located on the left bank of the city has suffered damage after falling debris caused the breaking of the running and contact rails on the tracks near the platform.
The Ukrainian Air Force has indicated in a message on social media that Russian troops launched several Iskander cruise missiles and around 270 drones during the night, emphasizing that four of those missiles and 243 unmanned aircraft were shot down by air defense systems.
However, it has confirmed impacts in 25 locations in the country and the fall of fragments from the shootdowns in another eight points, without providing data on possible victims. "The attack continues, as there are numerous enemy drones in the airspace," it has warned, while asking citizens to "follow safety rules."
The Russian Ministry of Defense, for its part, has claimed a "massive attack" with "precision weapons" and kamikaze drones against "military industry facilities, cruise missile and drone warehouses, as well as against a data processing center in Kiev and its region." It has also assured that a cargo ship that "was transporting military and dual-use material" was hit "while sailing 130 kilometers southwest of the port of Odesa."
In a statement released on social media, the Defense Ministry added that its air defense systems destroyed 149 drones launched by Ukrainian forces over several regions of the country and over the Crimean peninsula, annexed by Moscow in 2014, a decision that does not have the recognition of the international community.
