The Houthi insurgency has carried out a new attack on a military base in northeastern Yemen this Monday that has caused "dozens of dead and wounded," according to sources cited by the Saba news agency, an unofficial media outlet of the Yemeni militias. The Yemeni Army has confirmed the incident and is still preparing a detailed count of the victims.
The bombing targeted the Al Alam base, "to the east of Al Jauf province." Although the complex is indeed located to the east of this region, its exact location corresponds to Shabwa province, in the central-southern area of the country.
The military spokesperson for the Houthis, Yahya Sari, has assured that the offensive was directed against a contingent of the "Saudi enemy" deployed at the facility and that the attack has caused "dozens of dead and wounded," all of them the result of the "mobilization" promoted by Saudi Arabia, an ally of the Yemeni government in the conflict against the rebel movement.
"We warn the deceived not to respond to the calls of the Saudi enemy, which lead them with their contaminated money to the pyres of death, instead of to their own soldiers, without caring for their lives," the Houthi spokesperson emphasized in his message.
The official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Colonel Majid al Nuzaili, has also corroborated the attack and detailed that it would have been carried out using at least three missiles. The Presidency, led by Rashad al Alimi, has already been informed of the aggression, according to the government agency Saba (whose name coincides with that used by the Houthis), which currently mentions an indeterminate balance of "dead and wounded."
Pending the definitive official report, military sources have informed the correspondent of the Chinese agency Xinhua that, for the moment, at least 25 soldiers are counted as deceased and another 30 wounded as a result of the impact of the projectiles.
At the same time, the Governorate of the province has received reports that considerably raise the figures, speaking of "53 dead and about 200 wounded" from the missile attack, mostly recruits who were "training to become part of the security forces," according to the information provided to the news portal South24.
