At least seven people have died and another 112 have been injured after several passenger train carriages left the tracks and overturned on the railway line that connects Cairo and Aswan, at the level of the Jarza crossing, in the Egyptian governorate of Giza, as confirmed by the Egyptian Ministry of Health.

"The toll from the railway accident in Al Ayat stands at 112 injured and seven fatalities. 45 patients have been discharged after an improvement in their health status," the Ministry of Health said in its latest communique.

The Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Jaledabdel Gafar, has ordered that the highest level of alert be activated in all healthcare centers in the governorates of Giza and Beni Suef to ensure the medical and emergency support device. In this framework, 72 ambulances have been deployed to assist and evacuate the victims.

Up to 72 injured people have been referred to the Hospital of Al Wasta, in the governorate of Beni Suef; 33 have been taken to the Hospital of Al Ayat, and another seven remain hospitalized in the Central Hospital of Atfí, in Giza.

"Among the injuries suffered, various contusions and abrasions predominate, as well as fractures in the extremities, pelvis and vertebrae, lacerations in the head and face, and contusions in the chest and ribs," the Ministry of Health said.

Up to 45 people who were injured have already received hospital discharge. Seven other people are close to being discharged, while the rest of the injured continue to receive treatment under medical observation.

The ministerial portfolio has assured that it maintains "constant monitoring" of the development of those affected and that it is providing all of them with "full medical care".
