"We fear a possible resurgence of the fire on its northwest flank, towards Lacanau," pointed out in a press conference Rémi Lassoureille, commander responsible for the team of natural risks and forest fires of Gironde, according to the newspaper 'Le Monde'.
In the same appearance, Lassoureille confirmed the preventive evacuation of several campsites in the affected area, emphasizing that it is a precautionary measure, since "at the moment, the situation is relatively under control."
This Monday, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, stated that the fire that originated last Thursday in the department of Landes, in the southwest of the country, which forced the evacuation of 30,000 people, is already "under control." However, he warned that the fire that continues active in the department of Gironde "remains very virulent."
For its part, the prefecture of Gironde has reported that 84 firefighters have been injured during the firefighting efforts, which have devastated 42,000 hectares. In addition, Civil Protection of France has communicated in recent hours the death of a volunteer firefighter, Laurent Manson, "in the line of duty," while working on the extinction of another fire in the region of Bouches du Rhône.
