The Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, celebrated this Friday the announcement made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, about an agreement whereby the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) will renounce weapons and Israel will proceed to withdraw its troops from the Gaza Strip.
"Let me be clear: The clashes must cease on all fronts of the region. International navigation rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el Mandeb, as well as in their vicinity, must be fully restored," the Secretary-General stated in remarks to the press.
In this context, he demanded that "diplomacy prevail" in a scenario where conflicts in the Middle East are not "the only force putting people at risk," since, amid this "instability," another crisis "that knows no borders" advances every minute, referring to El Niño.
A person has lost their life and several have been injured this Friday following an Israeli drone attack in central Gaza, the first bombing with fatalities carried out by the Israeli Army since the disarmament agreement with Hamas was made public, after the Palestinian militia delegation met with mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey in Cairo.
The pact stipulates that the Palestinian faction will hand over its arsenal so that the Peace Board, the international body promoted by the U.S. president, takes effective control of the territory, first through the deployment of the International Stabilization Force and, subsequently, with the creation of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (CNAG), the political structure that will be led by the Palestinian economist and former deputy minister of the Palestinian Authority Alí Shaath.
