The UKMTO, the maritime trade organization of the British Navy, has urged all ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz this Sunday to take extreme security measures, following the escalation of tension between Iran and the United States due to an attack attributed to Tehran against the freighter "Galaxy", an incident in which a crew member of Indian nationality remains missing.
The Ministry of External Affairs of India has indicated that the rescue teams from Oman, located on the opposite shore of the strait, have managed to rescue about ten Indian sailors, although one of them is still not located.
"The Embassy maintains close contact with the Omani authorities, the ship's management, and interested parties, and is providing all possible assistance," the Ministry added in a statement published on social media.
At the same time, the UKMTO emphasizes that the situation in Hormuz is "serious," according to its latest operational report issued this morning, in which it clarifies, contrary to Iran's initial communication, that the southern route of the strait "remains available and has been extended to allow for bidirectional traffic."
"Ships can transit the southern route without coordination. There is no authority regulating passage or the payment of fees for any route," the British maritime agency indicated, citing additional information from the US Navy's Central Command.
