The Iranian authorities carried out on Wednesday the execution of two men convicted of the murder of four members of the security forces during the anti-government protests recorded between late December 2025 and February 2026.
According to the information disseminated by the news portal Mizan Online, linked to the judiciary of Iran, the executed are Ali Hemati and Mayid Nikandish, found guilty of the death of four agents during the mobilizations in the city of Mashhad, in the northeast of the country.
The sentences have been carried out by hanging, once the judicial proceedings were concluded and after the Supreme Court confirmed the death sentences imposed on both defendants.
The Iranian authorities have acknowledged more than 3,100 fatalities in the context of the protests -- among them 600 "terrorists" and more than 2,400 civilians and members of the security forces -- and have attributed to foreign powers the responsibility for fueling the violence in the streets with the aim of justifying a possible military intervention by the United States.
The U.S. president, Donald Trump, threatened on several occasions to launch an offensive against Iran in response to the repression of the demonstrations and, although he opened a new process of negotiations with Tehran to try to reach a nuclear agreement, he ultimately ordered a surprise joint offensive with Israel.
Trump himself admitted on April 5 that his Administration supplied weapons to protesters during the demonstrations with the intention of promoting an uprising against the authorities, statements that led Tehran to emphasize that his words support the official version regarding the involvement of armed individuals in the mobilizations.
At the same time, a United Nations investigation commission concluded on September 17 that the response of the Iranian authorities to the anti-government protests can be classified as "a systematic and widespread attack" against the civilian population, which could fit the definition of crimes against humanity.
