The Israeli Army reported this Tuesday the death in the Gaza Strip of a prominent member of the "security apparatus" of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), following a bombing carried out during the day over the city of Gaza.
The individual has been identified as Akram Basam Shaban Yasín, who was "eliminated" in a joint operation by the Shin Bet and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), according to the latter in a statement released on social media.
According to the military version, the deceased was in charge of the "central and secret body responsible for the security of senior Hamas officials," whose top official, Muein al Arabid, was arrested by Israel last September.
As detailed by the Israeli Army, the members of this structure "are responsible for the security of Hamas leaders, move between emergency facilities, and prepare intelligence reports - including the gathering of information on the (Israeli) security forces - that help the organization's leaders make decisions and carry out terrorist plans against the State of Israel."
The IDF has placed Yasín's death within its "ongoing effort to strike at the senior leadership" of this body and "weaken its capabilities" in the Gaza Strip.
Furthermore, the Army emphasized that, prior to the attack, measures were taken to "reduce the impact on the civilian population, including the use of precision weaponry and aerial surveillance." "The terrorist was eliminated from the air to remove the threat," they concluded.
