The Lebanese authorities have accused the Israeli Army this Wednesday of carrying out new attacks in the south of the country, despite the framework agreement reached with the Government, which contemplated a gradual withdrawal of Israeli troops and the transfer of control to the Lebanese Army.
According to the official agency NNA, the latest incidents have occurred in the governorate of Nabatiyé, where an attempt to shell various areas has been recorded.
The shots would have come from Israeli military positions in the area of Tel al Nahas, a heavily militarized enclave located near the border town of Kfar Kila, which remains partially under the control of Israeli forces.
According to this information, after the attacks, Israeli units would have retreated to the town of Haddatha, in the district of Bint Jbeil. At the same time, it has been reported that Israeli forces have demolished several homes in the area of Tyre, also in the south of the country.
In this context, the Lebanese president, Joseph Aoun, held a meeting this Wednesday with the president of the Parliament, Nabih Berri, to analyze the evolution of the situation. The meeting took place at the presidential palace in Baabda, at a time considered key for the immediate future of Lebanon.
"Both addressed the general situation at the local and regional level, as well as the situation in the south, in light of the Israeli aggressions against Lebanese towns and in particular the demolition of homes, in addition to the need to stop these hostile practices," as indicated by the Presidency in a message disseminated on social media.
Furthermore, the head of state conveyed to Berri "the results of his visit to the United States and the discussions he held with the American officials, led by the American president, Donald Trump, and the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio."
The Lebanese government has also updated the casualty figures since the resumption of hostilities by the Israeli Army against the Shiite militia party Hezbollah on March 2, despite the ceasefire in effect since mid-April. The authorities already estimate more than 4,330 dead and about 12,200 injured from the attacks on Lebanese territory.
