The Spanish Government has reiterated this Saturday its "firm condemnation" of the "continued" violence exercised by Israeli settlers against the Palestinian communities of the West Bank, after the serious events recorded this Friday in the municipality of Tell, where an incursion by settlers resulted in the death of four Palestinians.
During these events, a reservist who was participating in a security operation for the settlers and an Israeli soldier also lost their lives, after a Palestinian managed to seize a firearm and opened fire, in what the Palestinian authorities have described as an act of self-defense.
"In the face of this spiral of settler violence in the West Bank, the Government of Spain calls on the Government of Israel to take the necessary measures to de-escalate the violence, and to act so that these actions do not go unpunished," stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation in an official statement.
Spain also asks the Israeli Government to "reverse its settler expansion policies and the protection of settler violence against the Palestinian civilian population, and to fulfill the obligations that correspond to it as the occupying power of Palestine."
Finally, and as is customary, Spain "reiterates its firm commitment to the implementation of the two-State solution, and will continue to demand accountability from any actor that obstructs its viability."
