The Syrian authorities have reported the neutralization of an alleged cell belonging to the Lebanese Shiite party-militia Hezbollah in the province of Deraa, while claiming that its members would be related to plans to carry out "sabotages" in this region of the country.
According to the Internal Security Forces, the operation to "dismantle a cell linked to the Hezbollah militia" took place in the Yarmuk area with the support of intelligence service units, without providing further information for now, as reported by the official Syrian news agency, SANA.
Hezbollah, which has not yet publicly responded to these accusations, has reiterated on several occasions that it does not have operational cells in Syrian territory, where it supported former president Bashar al Assad, who has fled Damascus since December 2024.
The current government established in Syria after the fall of Al Assad, caused by an offensive from jihadist groups and rebel factions led by Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS) — a formation whose leader, Ahmed al Shara, now serves as transitional president — has launched several security campaigns in recent months directed against Hezbollah.
