The maritime trade agency of the British Navy (UKMTO, for its English acronym) has communicated this Sunday that the sailors of the damaged container ship in the Strait of Hormuz have abandoned the vessel and have been transferred to a lifeboat.
According to the British organization, this data comes from military sources and the security manager of the shipping company that owns the container ship, although no further details have been offered for now on the condition or specific whereabouts of the crew members.
"Authorities continue to investigate. Ships are advised to navigate with caution and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO," the British Navy agency added in its latest statement.
Hours earlier, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) had stated that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps attacked the 'M/V GFS Galaxy', a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM also detailed that one of the civilian crew members remained unaccounted for and that the ship could not continue its route due to a fire on board and serious damage to the engine room.
