The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Rob Jetten, and his partner, the Argentine field hockey player Nicolás Keenan, announced this Monday that they will become parents through surrogacy, a practice allowed in the country as long as it is arranged through a private agreement with the gestational mother.

The news was shared on both of their social media. In their message, the couple stated: "There are no words big enough to thank our egg donor, our gestational carrier, Lisa, and their respective families. None of this would be possible without you," accompanying the text with the ultrasound of the future baby and the introduction of Lisa, a friend of the couple.

According to the liberal party D66, to which Jetten belongs, both the gestational carrier and the egg donor are of Dutch nationality. The birth of the baby is expected in the spring of next year.

In his statement, Jetten emphasized: "We are incredibly grateful that, thanks to two wonderful women, we now have the opportunity to make our dream come true. The surrogate mother and the baby are doing well, which is, of course, the most important thing right now. We strongly ask everyone to respect the privacy of those involved."

Jetten, who has held the position of Prime Minister since February 2026 and was the first openly gay leader to reach this responsibility, will also become the first head of the Dutch Executive to be a father since World War II.
