The magistrate of the Supreme Court of Brazil Alexandre de Moraes has rejected the request of former president Jair Bolsonaro to receive a visit from his children this Sunday, coinciding with Father's Day in the country, considering that it would violate the conditions imposed in his house arrest.
De Moraes has pointed out that on July 17 he issued a resolution that banned family visits to the former president for a month, due to suspicions that his son, the senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro, could take advantage of those meetings for campaign purposes ahead of the elections in October.
"Moraes prohibited my brothers and me from visiting him precisely on Father's Day. They took away his freedom. Now they want to take away even a father's right to hug his children," lamented Flávio on social media while criticizing the decision of the Supreme Court judge.
Jair Bolsonaro was sentenced to more than 27 years in prison for organizing an attempted coup after his defeat in the 2022 presidential elections. The former head of state, 71 years old, is currently serving his sentence under house arrest due to his health condition.
His supporters, who did not accept the victory at the polls of his successor, the leftist leader Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, staged the invasion of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the presidential palace in Brasília on January 8, 2023, causing significant damage to the headquarters of the three powers.
Flávio Bolsonaro is running as the presidential candidate of the conservative Liberal Party (PL) in the October elections and is shaping up to be the main opponent of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who has been officially proclaimed the leftist Workers' Party (PT) candidate for a fourth term.
