The President of the United States, Donald Trump, warned this Wednesday that he will give "a brutal beating" to Iran after the "surprise attack" launched overnight against U.S. military assets and facilities in Jordan, where troops only had "a few minutes" to try to stop the missiles aimed at the territory.
In a telephone intervention on Fox News, the New York president reiterated that he will "hit hard" Iran and that the country "will receive a beating" for what happened in Jordan, an offensive that has been replicated in other parts of the region and that has exclusively targeted U.S. positions, in retaliation for previous attacks against Iranian territory.
Questioned about the bombings against positions of Iranian militias in Iraq, which have so far caused at least twenty fatalities, Trump suggested that there could be coordination with the Iraqi government and labeled the Iraqi militias aligned with Tehran as a "cancer for the world."
Despite the tone of his warnings, the occupant of the White House emphasized that he will allow his negotiating team to continue with the open talks with the Iranian authorities.
Tehran, for its part, has stated this week that it will cease attacks against U.S. interests and facilities in the region as long as Washington maintains the suspension of bombings.
