Two members of the Palestinian security forces have been seriously injured after being hit by gunfire in the Ain al Hilwé refugee camp, the largest Palestinian settlement located in Lebanese territory.
According to the official Lebanese agency NNA, the injured are Muhamad Fathi and Haitham Ghutani, attacked when they were at the Hasba checkpoint, within the camp itself. Both have been evacuated to Labib Medical Center, in the coastal city of Sidon, where they are receiving hospital care.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Hadi al Asadi, spokesman for the Palestinian National Security Forces, has condemned the shooting, which he attributed to "suspicious hands that continue the Israeli aggression against our people in Palestine and Lebanon to destabilize the camps, especially in light of the delicate circumstances currently facing Lebanon and the region."
Al Asadi stressed that both Fatah and the Palestinian National Security Forces have launched an investigation with the aim of clarifying the circumstances of the attack and determining who is behind it.
