The French movement of the “yellow vests” has called this Friday for new mass gatherings this Saturday in Paris, the capital of France, challenging the refusal of local authorities and on a day that is expected to be another day of protests against the French Government due to the high cost of living.
The group, which was born in 2018 in response to the rise in fuel prices and has consolidated itself as a symbol of social rejection, has emphasized that “they will disobey” the orders of the Paris Police Prefecture. For that reason, they have urged citizens to go to the central Place de la Concorde as the main meeting point.
“Tomorrow we will go to the square at 14.00 hours to the square and we will be there until 19.00 hours,” Benjamin Ball, a member of the coordinating committee of the “yellow vests,” said. “We are urging that a massive process of civil disobedience be carried out and we ask people not to follow alternative routes imposed by the Police,” he added.
Along the same lines, he pointed out that there is “room for democracy and the republic, and another for authoritarian drift, that of Emmanuel Macron,” as reported by the newspaper “Le Figaro”. “The routes established for the demonstrations are established, “blow by blow, by the president,” he clarified.
“That’s why we are going to disobey, and we are going to do it in a symbolic place like Place de la Concorde,” he explained.
His statements come as mobilizations persist in different parts of France against the executive over cuts in education, the rising cost of living, and the housing situation, among other demands. This same Friday, the lawyers who represent several injured protesters warned that they could take the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, before the courts.
