The president of the PP and candidate for the Presidency of the Government, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, positively valued this Tuesday the definitive eviction of the encampment set up at Puerta del Sol, which he considers "good news" for public health, merchants, the hospitality industry and the image of Madrid, in addition to understanding it as a sign that "the Rule of Law is working again".

During his remarks at a Europa Press Informative Breakfast, Feijóo pointed out that the new Government delegate, Pilar Trinidad, "may sense that political changes will take place in Spain this month, she might not want to assume more responsibilities than necessary".

The PP leader stressed that the end of the encampment means a relief for commercial and hospitality activity in the area and for the capital's reputation, also recalling the complaints filed by the different Madrid administrations.

Tightening of penalties for vandalic acts

In other matters, Feijóo reiterated that, if he reaches the Government, he will restore the aggravating circumstance for committing vandalic acts with the face covered, a provision that, according to him, was repealed by PSOE and Podemos in 2021-2022.

He also announced that he will promote an increase in penalties for those who encourage vandalic acts through social networks or websites, and that responsibilities will be established for the parents and guardians of minors who cause damage in public streets.

The opposition leader added that he will propose a specific aggravating circumstance for gangs or organizations that use minors to perpetrate these crimes, and he raised the possibility of extending, in certain cases, the time of internment of minors who participate in this type of actions.

Feijóo justified this package of measures as necessary to ensure peace and quiet in the streets and to curb the organization of meetups aimed at smashing urban furniture or stealing from shops and establishments, such as those recorded in October in Bilbao or Barcelona.

In this context, he stressed that the State Security Forces and Corps cannot have "less operational capacity than the violent ones" and assured that they will have the backing of the State.

Lastly, Feijóo has expressed his concern about the statements of some members of the Government and the parties that support it, whom he has accused of warning that "the streets are going to burn." "Then, obviously, you are left very worried," he concluded.
