The Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodríguez, has appealed to the "mobilization of citizens" ahead of the elections on 29 November, emphasizing that "it is not at stake a simple political change, but the real risk of democratic backsliding".

Rodríguez has backed the PSOE candidacy for Burgos, a list that the socialists present as "a reflection of Spanish society" and that is led by the provincial secretary, Esther Peña, for the Congress, and the former mayor of Aranda de Duero, Aitana Hernando, for the Senate.

The minister has encouraged both progressive voters and that part of the conservative electorate "that believes in the welfare state, in public healthcare and education, and in equality between men and women" to go to the polls.

The head of Housing and Urban Agenda has asserted the "power of the people through the vote" against those who seek to "influence democracy ·through money or the manipulation of algorithms", insisting that a possible change in government would "directly affect the consolidation of the welfare state and the social rights achieved".

In this context, she has expressly directed herself to the head of the opposition, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, so that he details the "sacrifices" to which he refers when he talks about economic adjustments.

Against what the PSOE describes as a right-wing campaign based on "insult and dehumanization", Rodríguez has defended that the socialist project is based on "explanation, argument, and a proposal focused on the real problems of citizens", positioning access to decent housing as the "fifth essential pillar of the welfare state.

At the provincial level, the socialists have reviewed the investments rolled out in Burgos in recent years, where more than one hundred million euros have been mobilized for public housing policies.

With these resources, the rehabilitation of almost 5,700 properties has been made possible and the promotion of another 300 public homes, to which nearly 90 properties from the Casa 47 programme for social rent will be added.

Among the most relevant projects, she has pointed to the development of university accommodation facilities promoted together with the University of Burgos (UBU). The initiative, planned on land near the campus of the Politécnica, includes more than 200 individual accommodations with shared spaces and a price clearly below the market, around 390 euros per month.

The project has an contribution of six million euros from the Ministry of Housing and is already in the final stage of administrative processing.
