The Government of Melilla has conveyed to the central Executive and to the Government delegate, Sabrina Moh, that the Autonomous City will stand firm against any attempt to install new reception devices for migrants in its territory, whether they are Temporary Stay Centers for Immigrants (CETI) or Temporary Attention Centers for Foreigners (CATE). This stance comes after the announcement by the Minister of the Interior, Fernando Grande-Marlaska, to launch two CATE, one in Ceuta and another in Melilla, and the subsequent confirmation from Moh, who 24 hours later clarified that land dependent on the Ministry of Defense would not be used.
Through the first vice president of Melilla, Miguel Marín, the local Executive has questioned, especially, the statements made by the Government delegate in recent days regarding the location of plots to enable a space intended to assist people who enter the city irregularly, with the aim of processing their documentation and then proceeding with their return.
According to the representative of the PP, Moh initially admitted that the Ministry of the Interior was looking for a location for this purpose, while in a later message, she ruled out the opening of any new resource and maintained that the current CETI alone meets the reception needs of Melilla.
"One day she says one thing and the next day, just the opposite," Marín has pointed out, who considers that these statements are incompatible with each other and reproaches the delegate for offering different versions about the plans of the National Government.
The first vice president has urged the central Executive to concentrate its efforts on stopping irregular entries into the autonomous city. "What the Government needs to do is guarantee territorial integrity and prevent irregular entries," he has stated.
The popular leader has insisted that the Government of the City will maintain its "frontal" rejection of the establishment of new centers for migrant attention. "In Melilla, we will not allow the construction of either CETI or CATE," he has stated.
Marín has also directed his reproaches directly at Sabrina Moh and has questioned whether the position of the Government Delegation has changed in just one day regarding the possible habilitation of new reception spaces. "Let it be clear to the Government delegate, neither CETI nor CATE," Miguel Marín has emphasized.
