The Secretary General of the PSPV and Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, reiterated this Friday her "support and confidence" in former President of the Government José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and maintained that in Spain there is a "double standard" and that justice "is not the same for everyone and is not applied equally to everyone".

Morant made these statements at the PSPV headquarters in València, after a meeting with union representatives from the educational community. She was asked about the appraisal commissioned by the National Court judge José Luis Calama, the investigating judge in the 'Plus Ultra case', according to which a jewelry store has valued the jewels seized in a safe in Zapatero's office at 1.3 million euros.

"I am still surprised every time I read news that is then seen in official reports. Because once again we have had to read this leak from the justice system a week in advance," said the minister, emphasizing that this situation continues to "hurt her and generate absolute distrust." "I believe that there is a defenselessness on the part of some people in our country to whom justice is not treating them the same as others," she added.

In her speech, Morant recalled that the previous Attorney General of the State, Álvaro García Ortiz, "was taken down for an alleged leak that was never proven" to have originated from him. In contrast, she contrasted that "here every day we learn about leaks and advances of these leaks by the PP and Vox and nothing happens." "It is a reflection that I also wanted to make," she remarked.

Regarding Zapatero's situation, she insisted that currently "we are in a moment of investigation" and that the former president "will appear and testify next week," so she called for waiting "to see what his explanations are" before drawing conclusions.

Morant's criticism of Feijóo's leadership

At another point in the press conference, Diana Morant referred to the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, stating that she understands that he "needs headlines and to continue having bullets to shoot at the Government of Spain, but the truth is that what he does not have is a political project or the capacity to generate an alternative to a government that works, that creates employment, that grows economically and that is an international defender of peace, coexistence, solidarity and with a management that even the Pope has endorsed on this visit," she defended.

Subsequently, when questioned about Judge Calama's decision to open a new line of investigation within the 'Plus Ultra case' against Zapatero for alleged tax and smuggling offenses linked to the jewelry found in the search of his office, considering that its origin "is not justified," Morant stressed that she maintains her "support and confidence" in the former president. Along these lines, she reiterated: "I believe that, effectively, in this country there is a double standard and that justice is not equal and is not applied equally to everyone."
