Members of the National Police Force began at first thing on Sunday morning the work to dismantle the migrant camp installed in the expansion area of the Port of Ceuta, after the first expulsion orders had been issued against the people who were staying there.

These migrants arrived in Ceuta on the 30th and 31st of July and have been taken to the CATE of El Tarajal, where their identification is carried out prior to their expulsion to Morocco. The legal time limits for these people to be able to apply for asylum in Spain have already expired and their requests have been rejected, which is why they are being returned.

The operation is carried out under a large police deployment that keeps the entire perimeter cordoned off. The authorities have chosen to carry out the operation on a Sunday so as not to coincide with the school term, given that the camp is located next to an educational center.

For now, it is unknown whether the dismantling will affect the entire camp. Police sources point out that the final decision will depend on the availability of places in other reception resources enabled in the Autonomous City.

The settlement is located in the expansion area of the Port of Ceuta, a space whose urban development was scheduled for the coming months. The Board of Directors of the Ceuta Port Authority came to vote against the transfer of these lands, although the Ministry of Transport finally ordered their use. The immigrants will be moved both to the CATE and to the CETI of the city.
