The Council of Ministers has given the green light to a Royal Decree to renew the Cine Sénior program. The measure allows those over 65 years of age to obtain tickets to go to the cinema for 2 euros on Tuesdays. The proposal dates back to 2023 and with this one it accumulates four editions.
The Government spokesperson, Elma Saiz, has pointed out that the initiative pursues a dual objective: to facilitate access to culture and to promote active aging. Furthermore, the Executive points out the importance of these initiatives for the cultural industry and the life of cities and neighborhoods. Saiz has specified that with this decision, the Government reaffirms its commitment to culture understood as a right.
The discount is applied when purchasing the ticket both at the box office, online, or at automatic cinema machines. The Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun, has described previous editions as a "success" and has detailed that the amount the Government will allocate for the 2026-2027 program will be 11.5 million euros.

With the 2023-2024 program, 900,000 people attended the theaters, as detailed by the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun. The figure increased to 1,600,000 spectators in the following edition.
For his part, Urtasun has specified that in the 28 weeks of this new campaign, one and a half million people over 65 years of age have already taken advantage of this discount.
