The General Board of the Principality of Asturias has given the green light this Friday to two resolution proposals linked to housing policy, one driven by the deputy of the Mixed Group and another jointly registered by PSOE and IU-Convocatoria. Tomé's initiative demands activating the 'Plan for the Prevention of Evictions', already approved in Committee, with the aim of stopping the loss of the habitual residence both due to mortgage foreclosures and rental defaults.
In this line, the proposal contemplates coordinating "immediately" dignified residential solutions before any eviction takes place.
Likewise, the resolution demands that the Asturian Government continue "agilely" with the necessary technical work to declare Tensioned Residential Market Zones in those areas of the Asturian councils where the data justifies this figure.
As a third axis, the text proposes designing a 'Director Plan for Public Housing of Asturias 2027-2030', fitting within the current legal framework and aiming to increase the public housing stock of the community by 5,000 homes.
According to what is stated in the approved proposal, the document must include a detailed study of the demographic, geographic, and socioeconomic circumstances of Asturias, in order to ensure a balanced distribution across the territory, as well as to set the necessary budget allocation to achieve the established objectives.
Additional push from PSOE and IU for public housing
Regarding the proposal jointly registered by PSOE and IU-Convocatoria for Asturias, which has also received support from the deputy of the Mixed Group Covadonga Tomé, the Government Council is urged to strengthen public housing policies in the Principality.
The approved text asks the regional Executive, first of all, to continue promoting new public housing developments, aiming to reach a stock of 15,000 homes within ten years.
Secondly, the resolution requests to double rental assistance, so that coverage can reach 10,000 Asturian families over the next fiscal year.
In the same way, the regional Chamber demands to continue with the declaration of tensioned zones in those neighborhoods, towns, and cities whose indicators support the need for this measure.
Finally, the text demands that the regional Government close and sign, before December 31, 2026, a Social Pact for access to decent, adequate, and affordable housing together with the members of the Autonomous Housing Council.
With this package of measures, its promoters emphasize the importance of guaranteeing access to decent, adequate, and affordable housing for all Asturian citizens.
