The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food has announced this Wednesday, through the Official State Gazette (BOE), the opening of the call for the Alimentos de España award Mejores Aceites de Oliva Virgen Extra corresponding to the 2026-2027 campaign.

These awards are intended to promote a flagship product of Spanish agriculture and, at the same time, to encourage olive mills to produce oils of the highest quality.

The call is structured into four categories: three for conventional production —best green sweet fruity oil, green bitter fruity, and ripe fruity— and a specific category for the best oil from organic production.

The oil that achieves the highest score among all categories in the tasting phase and in the physicochemical analysis will also obtain the Special Award Alimentos de España for the Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Olive mills authorized with their registered office in Spain may take part in this competition. Each participant will have the possibility of submitting samples until 3 December, both in the conventional production category and in the organic category. The samples must come from a homogeneous batch of at least 10,000 kilograms and belong to the 2026-2027 campaign.

This recognition, which has been granted every year since 1998, seeks to highlight the excellence of Spanish extra virgin olive oils, support their production and marketing, and promote greater consumer awareness of this product.
