Elecciones generales del 29 de noviembre · Demócrata

The victory of James Talarico in the Senate elections for Texas has triggered a succession of reactions in both parties. The Democrat celebrated the result before his followers in Austin with a message of political vindication: "We have recovered Texas." In his speech, he presented the victory as a win for citizens over economic power and political division.

Talarico said that voters had shown that politics could be built from the interests of the majority and not from the big campaign financiers. During his speech, he contrasted the division between left and right that, in his view, exists between those who are up and those who are down. He also argued that a "politics of love" could be imposed over confrontation.

One of the most prominent messages came from Republican senator John Cornyn, who lost the primaries of his party to Ken Paxton. Cornyn congratulated Talarico and offered his help during the institutional handover. "Voters have spoken and I want to convey my congratulations to James Talarico for his election to the United States Senate," he wrote. He also expressed his willingness to meet with him and collaborate in the transition.

Paxton, defeated at the ballot box, acknowledged to his followers that Republicans had a bad day at the polls across the country. "We had a difficult night tonight across the country, but it hasn't ended," he said in a brief statement in Dallas.

Democratic leadership celebrates the seat change

The chair of the Democratic National Committee, Ken Martin, congratulated Talarico and the teams that worked on the campaign. In his statement, he highlighted that the result gives Democrats a seat in Texas for the first time since 1988, and he pointed to reducing the cost of living, access to healthcare, housing, and protecting workers among the elected senator's priorities.

Chuck Schumer also spoke, Chuck Schumer, and senator Kirsten Gillibrand, president of the Democratic committee in charge of Senate campaigns. Both congratulated the elected senator and highlighted her track record in the Texas House of Representatives and her commitment to workers.

Congratulations also came from state politics. Representative Gene Wu described the outcome as a "historic victory for all Texans"; Greg Casar expressed his pride in Talarico and in the citizens who had worked for years to bring about the change, and state senator Roland Gutierrez congratulated both the Senate winner and Gina Hinojosa, who won the race for governor, with a message: "This is only the beginning".
