ASAJA has scheduled, for November 13, 2026, in the town of Tamarite de Litera (Huesca), the technical session "Present and future of pig farming", a forum that is created with the purpose of examining the current situation, the challenges and the expectations for the evolution of one of the key sectors for the agricultural and agri-food economy of the province of Huesca and of all of Aragón.
Pig farming plays an essential role in the area, both due to the high number of livestock farms and due to the business network linked to production, the auxiliary industry, processing and marketing.
This activity generates direct and indirect employment, helps to keep people in rural areas and represents a very relevant part of Aragón’s agri-food export capacity.
For all these reasons, and given its economic, social and territorial relevance, ASAJA Huesca considers it essential to enable spaces for information, reflection and debate around the issues that today condition its development.
During the session, some of the topics that generate the most interest among professionals will be addressed, such as the new regulatory framework for pig farming, with special attention to the Royal Decree that regulates this activity, as well as the launch of biogas plants and their link to livestock farming, their opportunities, implications and future perspectives.
The program will include the intervention of Tsjerk Terpstra, a specialist in Dutch policies in the field of agriculture, energy and climate change, who will open the morning session.
In the first block of the session, Bárbara Palacino will also participate, project manager at CIRCE (Center for Information and Network for the Creation of Enterprises). She brings experience in adding value to by-products and waste, agricultural and livestock management, and optimizing resources to improve the efficiency and sustainability of farms. Her presentation will be titled "From slurry to biofertilizer: new opportunities for the countryside".
The second conference will be given by the director of ANPROGRAPOR, Miguel Ángel Higueras. Subsequently, a debate panel will be held on the Royal Decree and the pig farming regulations and biogas plants, with the participation of representatives of the MAPA, the director general of the Department of Agriculture of the Government of Aragón, Enrique Novales, and the director of INAGA, Luis Simal.
The official opening will be carried out by the mayor of Tamarite de Litera, Sandra González, and by the president of ASAJA Huesca, Fernando Lunz.
The closing will have the presence of the president of the Provincial Council of Huesca (DPH), Isaac Claver, and of the general secretary of ASAJA Aragón and ASAJA Huesca, Ramón Solanilla.
