A dozen wineries of Corpinnat located in the Penedès area (between Barcelona and Tarragona) have started in July the "earliest" harvest recorded so far, an advance motivated by the increase in temperatures.
From the Corpinnat association of winemakers, they point out in a statement that in the coming days practically all the wineries in the area will join the grape collection, when traditionally the campaign would start during the first half of September.
The entity has highlighted that the quality of the grape will be "optimal," as the winter rains have allowed the recovery of the water reserves of the vines after 3 consecutive years of drought.
However, they anticipate that the volume of kilos harvested will be lower than initially expected due to the scarcity of precipitation in recent months, a factor that has also accelerated the ripening process of the grape.
For this campaign, the minimum price has been set at 0.943 euros per kilo of organic grapes harvested by hand.
