Inditex founder Amancio Ortega, his daughter Sandra, Juan Roig (Mercadona), Juan Carlos Escotet (Abanca) and Rafael del Pino Calvo-Sotelo (Ferrovial) remain the five largest fortunes in the country, according to the ranking of the list of "The 100 richest Spaniards" compiled by Forbes España.
Altogether, the combined wealth of the 100 major national fortunes in 2026 reaches the record figure of 300.530 million euros, which implies an increase of 16.1% compared with the previous year.
Amancio Ortega, controlling shareholder of Inditex, continues at the top of the ranking since 2014. His wealth has increased by 13.9% compared with 2025, to 125.200 million euros, which keeps him within the "top 10" worldwide of Forbes USA.
Behind him is his daughter Sandra Ortega, the only woman among the top five positions, with an estimated fortune of 11.500 million euros.
The president of Mercadona, Juan Roig, rises to third place with 9.800 million euros, 24% more, while the president of Abanca, Juan Carlos Escotet, enters in fourth position, reaching 8.100 million euros, 31% more than the previous year.
The president of Ferrovial, Rafael del Pino Calvo-Sotelo, drops to fifth place, with a fortune valued at 7.800 million euros.
The "top ten" is completed by Hortensia Herrero, one of the main shareholders of Mercadona and vice president of the chain, with 5.500 million euros; Florentino Pérez, president of ACS and of Real Madrid, with 4.900 million; the shopping center entrepreneur Tomás Olivo, also with 4.900 million; María del Pino Calvo-Sotelo, president of the Rafael del Pino Foundation, with 4.200 million; and Miguel Fluxà, executive president of the Iberostar group, with 4.100 million euros.
An increasingly aging elite
Spain is facing in the coming years an unprecedented generational change in its major business groups. The average age of the members of the list is already 70 years, which confirms that the consolidation of large fortunes still requires long periods of accumulation.
Among the oldest stands out Amancio Ortega, who turned 90 in March. Alongside him appear other historic figures of the business fabric such as Miguel Fluxà Roselló (88 years old), who adds 4.100 million with Iberostar; Juan Abelló (84 years old), with 3.100 million through Torreal; and the brothers March Delgado, who bring together billions through Banca March and Corporación Financiera Alba.
The septuagenarians continue to have a decisive weight in the top positions, with names such as Juan Roig (77 years old) and his wife Hortensia Herrero (76 years old), in addition to Florentino Pérez (79 years old), who this year enters strongly into the overall top 10. Among the sexagenarians, Rafael del Pino (68 years old) and Juan Carlos Escotet (67 years old) stand out, who head a group very linked to infrastructure and traditional banking.
The 2026 edition of Forbes also leaves out surnames present the previous year, such as Dolores Ortega, Primitiva Renedo, Luis Fernández Somoza, the two Molins branches, the Grifols family or the García-Baquero. According to the magazine, these departures do not respond to patrimonial collapses, but to the strong increase in the minimum entry threshold, which "expels" those who have not been able to keep up with the pace of market revaluation.
Record female presence on the list
Women strengthen their presence in the business leadership and already represent 28% of the ranking positions. Overall, "the 100 richest women" accumulate 64.779 million euros in 2026, 14% more than the previous year.
Sandra Ortega remains the country's largest female fortune, concentrating nearly a fifth of the total wealth in the hands of women. In sixth place on the global list and second among women is Mercadona vice president Hortensia Herrero, with an estimated wealth of 5.550 million euros.
In ninth place overall, María Del Pino Calvo Sotelo, president of the Fundación Rafael del Pino, repeats, with 4.200 million euros, consolidated as one of the pillars of the great Spanish fortunes.
Added to this group is the president of Banco Santander, Ana Botín, who enters the ranking for the first time in 97th place, with 550 million euros. Her debut coincides for the first time with the presence of her brother Javier Botín, who appears in 81st place with 700 million euros.
The biggest jump in the ranking is led by Fernando Masaveu and his family. The president of Corporación Masaveu is placed directly in 30th position with assets of 1.700 billion euros, the most notable entry since 2021. This Asturian clan leads a conglomerate with benchmark stakes in the electricity company EDP, Bankinter and Línea Directa.
Among the new entries with an industrial profile and linked to renewables, José Manuel Cortizo, founder of Aluminios Cortizo, stands out, appearing in 76th place with 750 million euros; and Enrique Riquelme (Grupo Cox), who is placed in 90th position with 620 million, establishing himself as one of the main young representatives of the clean energy sector.
Wealth linked to football, culture and art
In the sports field, the wealthiest businessmen related to football continue to be Juan Carlos Escotet (Abanca/Deportivo de La Coruña), with 8.100 billion euros; Florentino Pérez (ACS/Real Madrid), with 4.900 billion; and Fernando Roig (Pamesa/Villarreal), with 2.400 billion.
In this edition, the advance of Florentino Pérez stands out, whose fortune has skyrocketed by 58%, which boosts him into the overall top 10. In addition, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, chief executive of Atlético de Madrid, enters at 78th place with 730 million after the arrival of the Apollo fund to the shareholding of the red-and-white club.
In the field of culture and art, the list keeps its usual references. Carmen Thyssen, backed by her art collection, has assets valued at 1.300 billion euros and occupies 45th position. For his part, Julio Iglesias consolidates himself for another year as the richest singer in the country, in 92nd place with an estimated fortune of 600 million euros.
Madrid concentrates more fortunes, Galicia the largest wealth
By autonomous communities, the Community of Madrid is consolidated as the territory with the greatest number of members on the list, bringing together 33 large fortunes with a combined wealth of 54.600 billion euros.
It is followed by Catalonia, with 26 fortunes and 33.040 billion euros, while Galicia remains the region with the greatest volume of accumulated money: 147.050 billion euros concentrated in just five fortunes, driven by the "Inditex effect", since Amancio and Sandra Ortega account for 45.5% of the total wealth.
Valencian Community (20.640 billion euros) and the Balearic Islands (18.130 billion euros) register increases of more than 4,000 million each, supported by Mercadona and the hotel business. Asturias, for its part, gains weight thanks to the entry of the Masaveu family and slips directly into the "top 10" regional ranking of national wealth.
