The general coordinator of Unión Rural Asturiana (URA), Borja Fernández, will attend the Rural Environment Commission of the General Board of the Principality next Wednesday, where he plans to examine the management of the Land Bank and raise several unresolved issues regarding the aid intended for the agricultural sector.
The organization plans to question the current budget of this body and its true usefulness for professionals in the field. URA emphasizes that nearly 70% of the funds are used for personnel expenses, a percentage it considers excessive when compared to the results obtained. Therefore, it will demand a thorough review of the functions and structure of the Land Bank, in order to ensure that public money is effectively directed towards the real needs of farmers and ranchers.
During his intervention, Fernández will also inquire about the situation regarding the aid for the incorporation of young farmers and ranchers, as well as the improvement plans for farms. Both lines of support are designed to facilitate generational change in the field, promote the modernization of facilities, and ensure the continuity of Asturian agricultural businesses.
Likewise, URA will request clarifications on the payments still pending from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) aid corresponding to the previous fiscal year, and will demand that clear deadlines be established to make effective the amounts that remain to be paid. The organization warns that these delays cause uncertainty and liquidity tensions among beneficiaries, who depend on these subsidies to sustain their farms and cope with rising production costs.
All these demands will be conveyed to the Ministry of Rural Environment, to which URA will ask for precise answers and firm commitments aimed at improving the situation of the agricultural sector in Asturias.
