The general secretary of PSOE-A, María Jesús Montero; the former president of the Andalusian Parliament Jesús Aguirre (PP-A), and the journalist Álvaro Zancajo (Vox) will formalize next Tuesday, September 8, the taking of possession of the seats they will occupy in the Senate, after having been designated by the Andalusian Parliament following the regional elections of last May 17.
Together with María Jesús Montero, Jesús Aguirre, and Álvaro Zancajo, the Plenary of the Andalusian Parliament elected last July as senators by autonomous designation the former deputies of PP-A Francisco Javier Oblaré and Virginia Pérez, as well as María Pastor at the proposal of Vox. In addition, it re-elected the socialists Juan Espadas and Susana Díaz --who coincide in having been general secretaries of PSOE-A--, and Javier Arenas (PP), who had already been senators in the previous Andalusian legislature.
In fact, Juan Espadas will continue as spokesperson for the Socialist Group in the Senate, a task for which he will have María Jesús Montero as deputy spokesperson starting from this new session period, a role that, for his part, Javier Arenas has been performing in the Popular Group.
According to the agenda, consulted by Europa Press, the Plenary of the Senate will hold its first session after the summer break starting at 16:00 hours on Tuesday, September 8, and includes as the second point the oath of the Constitution by the aforementioned senators designated by the Andalusian Parliament.
The Senate Regulations state in its article 12 that senators designated by the autonomous communities must "take the oath or promise of allegiance" to the Constitution as is contemplated for the rest of the senators at the beginning of their mandate.
To this end, the president of the Senate will ask each of them the question "Do you swear or promise to uphold the Constitution?", to which the senators will respond "yes, I swear" or "yes, I promise".
Designation of the Andalusian senators
It was last July 23 when the Plenary of the Andalusian Parliament designated the aforementioned nine senators in representation of the autonomous community, following the regional elections of last May 17.
Four senators are from PP-A; three from PSOE-A, and two from Vox. The PP-A was entitled, based on the electoral results, to five senators, but has ceded one to Vox by virtue of the government agreement signed in Andalusia between both formations for this legislature.
Thus, the Popular Group registered the proposal of María Pastor --at that time, director of the Office of Maternity Care of the City Council of Seville-- as senator, although her election was made at the proposal of Vox, so that she, like Álvaro Zancajo, will integrate into the Mixed Group of the upper chamber, which accommodates the representatives of that formation.
