The regional MP of CHA, Mascún Ariste, has taken aim this Sunday at "the failure" of the first tender for new airport routes in Zaragoza, a process which, in his view, "shows the weaknesses of the strategy driven by the Government of Aragon and the Zaragoza City Council".

As he has recalled, of the 20 new routes announced last September, 11 have been left vacant for not receiving any proposal from the airline companies. "It is difficult to present as a success a tender in which more than half of the new destinations that were trumpeted to the skies have not even sparked the interest of the airlines," Mascún Ariste said, thereby questioning the official assessment of the process.

The CHA parliamentarian has also criticized "that the PP-Vox Executive is trying to convey a triumphalist image of the results when the reality is very different" and has warned that "institutional propaganda cannot be confused with an effective connectivity policy. Announcing twenty destinations does not mean that twenty connections will exist, and much less that these will respond to Aragon’s needs," he underlined.

Given this situation, CHA has urged the Government of Aragon to put aside grandiloquent announcements and to present a serious, realistic and planned airport strategy, one that starts from the real mobility needs of the community and its strategic position on the map.

Along these lines, Ariste has stressed that "the Zaragoza airport has to be a useful infrastructure for the economic, tourism and logistics development of our country, not a showcase for announcements that later do not materialize. Aragon needs stable, competitive, and well-justified connections, not unfulfilled promises," he concluded.
