The Table of the Assembly of Madrid has decided to launch a disciplinary proceeding against the Más Madrid deputy Jimena González, following her intervention in the Plenary in which she made an ironic remark about the burning of the Real Casa de Correos.

As sources from within the parliamentary sphere indicated to Europa Press, the action originates in a written submission registered by the PP after the plenary session held on October 22.

During that debate, González raised whether the President of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, preferred “the French route” over the “peaceful” encampment at Puerta del Sol for the right to housing and that “people enter the Real Casa de Correos and set it on fire.”

“If the lady Ayuso is so bothered, if the people who are concentrated in Sol to demand the right to decent housing in a completely peaceful and civic way are so bothersome to her, maybe she prefers the French route and prefers that people enter the Casa de Correos and set it on fire,” the deputy said in a reply in which she defended the right to strike.

In light of these statements, the President of the Assembly of Madrid, Enrique Ossorio, said that they were “extremely serious” and that they could be inferred as a possible incitement to violence. He required the parliamentarian to withdraw her words, something that the Más Madrid representative did not do.

The PP initiative requests the opening of a disciplinary procedure under Article 33.3 of the Regulation of the Assembly of Madrid. This provision considers as an infringement of deputies’ duties any attack on the dignity of the Chamber or on discipline, order, or parliamentary courtesy, when their conduct, whether by action or by word, causes disorder.

The investigation of the case file will fall to the PP deputy María Josefa Martínez de la Fuente, “with the aim of guaranteeing the right of the affected party to be heard and to defend herself.” Among the sanctions provided for in the Regulation are, ranging from a warning to the suspension of certain parliamentary rights for a maximum period of 30 days.

If it were to prosper, it would be the third reprimand for a deputy in the current term of the legislature. In spring 2024, the then spokesperson for Vox in the Chamber, Rocío Monasterio, was sanctioned for casting a double vote (15 days without pay), and in autumn of the same year, the parliamentarian from Más Madrid, Pablo Padilla, was sanctioned for simulating a shot in the Hemicycle (18 days without pay). In the two previous files, the current advisor for Education, Science and Universities, Mercedes Zarzalejo, acted as the instructor.
