The European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) has launched an investigation into alleged fraud that “affects European funds intended for the renewal and improvement of safety, signage, and communications systems” on the AVE Madrid–Seville line, the scene of the fatal accident recorded near Urda (Toledo) on 28 October of last year.

According to the information provided by the EPPO, the Madrid office “is carrying out investigative measures at the headquarters of ADIF, at the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF) and at the Court of Auditors in Spain”.

The European Public Prosecutor specifies that these proceedings have the collaboration of the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil and that they were opened ‘ex officio’, on the initiative of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office itself.
