MÉS per Mallorca, integrated into the Sumar Group, has managed to get the Territorial Policy Commission of Congress to endorse a proposal that urges the Government to review and update the Special Regime of the Balearic Islands (REIB), also incorporating new indicators on the floating population and effective demographic pressure.
In the debate on the initiative, the MÉS deputy, Vicenç Vidal, explained that he accepted the amendments proposed by the PP in his proposal, thus securing the favorable vote of this group. The initiative also garnered the support of Junts, ERC, EH Bildu, and Compromís, while the PSOE abstained and Vox voted against it.
The approved text proposes carrying out the necessary legal modifications to consolidate the current fiscal, economic, and territorial compensation measures included in the REIB in a stable and permanent manner.
Likewise, the proposal advocates for reviewing the calculation criteria for the insularity factor and the State's territorialized investments in the Balearic Islands, so that indicators related to the floating population and effective demographic pressure are included.
However, the PP's amendment removes the option of taking into account indicators linked to the costs derived from insularity.
Another section of the initiative proposes incorporating specific tools into the REIB to promote economic diversification and ecological transition, although the popular amendment eliminates the point that referred to fiscal incentives for strategic sectors.
Finally, the approved proposal also maintains a section that calls for the continuation of the subsidy for collective land public transport in the Balearic archipelago.
