MÉS per Mallorca, integrated into the Sumar Group, has achieved that the Territorial Policy Commission of Congress gives its support to a proposal that urges the Government to review and update the Special Regime of the Balearic Islands (REIB), also incorporating new indicators on the floating population and effective demographic pressure.

During the discussion of the initiative, the MÉS deputy, Vicenç Vidal, announced that he accepted the amendments presented by the PP in its wording, thus guaranteeing the favorable vote of this group. The proposal also garnered the support of Junts, ERC, EH Bildu, and Compromís, while the PSOE opted for abstention and Vox expressed its rejection.

The approved text proposes introducing the necessary legal modifications to stably and permanently consolidate the current fiscal, economic, and territorial compensation measures included in the REIB.

Likewise, the initiative advocates for reviewing the criteria used to calculate the insularity factor and the State's territorialized investments in the Balearic Islands, so that indicators linked to the floating population and effective demographic pressure are added.

The PP's amendment, however, removes the option of adding indicators that reflect the costs derived from insularity.

Another element of the text proposes adding specific tools to the REIB to promote economic diversification and ecological transition, although the modification introduced by the PP discards the section related to fiscal incentives for strategic sectors.

Finally, the initiative maintains a point dedicated to ensuring the continuity of the bonus for collective land public transport in the Balearic Islands.
