The Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities and Secretary General of PSPV-PSOE, Diana Morant, has attacked PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo for "coming out to justify" the 'former president' of the Generalitat Carlos Mazón a year after his resignation over his handling of the dana of October 29, 2024, which caused 234 deaths in the province of Valencia.

"A year has passed since Mazón resigned and, however, little or nothing has changed. He remains entitled to special legal status, protected by his seat in Les Corts and backed by Feijóo," the socialist leader has stressed in a message on her profile on the social network 'X'. In that same post, she has criticized that the PP president has returned "once again" to "come out to justify it and defend him".

From PSPV-PSOE, through their social media accounts, they have also denounced that, a year after Mazón’s resignation, the PP continues "doing the same thing: protecting him." "Feijóo has come out again today in his defense. Let no one have doubts: they are accomplices in his impunity," they said.

In an interview on La Sexta, Alberto Núñez Feijóo has stated that it is "evident" that he has not "endorsed" the actions of the 'former president' of the Generalitat Carlos Mazón in response to the dana and that he has been "critical" both of the Generalitat Valenciana and, "above all, with the central Government". What’s more, he has warned that, if rains of the same intensity were to repeat, they would again "have similar things happen".

The popular leader made these statements when he was asked about the reason why Mazón did not submit his resignation immediately after the catastrophe. Feijóo has explained that they discussed that issue "for a long time" and that "the corresponding decisions" were adopted. In his view, the Government of Spain "washed its hands of" the dana and did not declare the emergency. "If Mr. Mazón also resigns, the question is, listen, who takes charge of all this kind of considerations? And in my opinion, it wasn’t the moment. The moment was later," he said.

Asked again whether he supports Mazón’s management in those days, the PP president has reiterated: "It is evident that I did not endorse that management and I have been critical of that management, both with the Government of the Generalitat and above all with the central Government." Along the same lines, he has insisted that, if an episode of rains of that magnitude were to repeat, they would again "have similar things happen".

Also this Tuesday, the general secretary of the PP, Miguel Tellado, in an interview on TVE, has defended that Mazón "assumed his responsibilities and resigned" for his handling of the dana, while the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, is "clinging to his chair" after the rail accident in Urda (Toledo), with 69 dead, and the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, who appointed him, would not be "willing to take on any of the responsibilities".
