Santa María de la Alameda and Las Navas del Marqués, two new municipalities confined by the advance of the fires

The authorities have ordered this afternoon the quarantine of the municipalities of Santa María de la Alameda (Madrid) and Las Navas del Marqués (Ávila) as a consequence of the evolution of the forest fires affecting the central peninsula.

The measure has been communicated to the population through the alert system Es-Alert, while, in parallel, a new notice has been sent to remind of the evacuation of the Madrid municipality of Zarzalejo.

The fire concentrates efforts in the Sierra Oeste of Madrid

The Government delegate in the Community of Madrid, Francisco Martín, has explained that during the afternoon of this Monday the extinction work has focused on a "very aggressive" front located north of the San Juan reservoir, in the course of the Cofio river, towards Valdemaqueda.

In addition, he has pointed out that in the vicinity of Villa del Prado several reactivations have occurred that have forced continuous intervention to prevent new advances of the fire.

Martín has conveyed a message of caution and has assured that the operation has the necessary resources to face the fire, although he has warned that the next hours will be decisive before the arrival of the new heat wave expected for Wednesday, which will increase temperatures and reduce relative humidity.

Ecological Transition maintains 39 support means deployed

The Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (Miteco) maintains an extensive support device for the autonomous communities affected by the forest fires.

According to the latest update, the state operation is made up of 39 aerial and ground means, including 12 forest firefighter brigades, four helicopters, five ground cargo planes, 12 amphibious planes, three coordination aircraft, one mobile analysis and planning unit, and two evaluation and advisory teams, which collaborate in the extinction and coordination tasks of the emergency.
