The Housing Campout of Vigo continues to be set up in Plaza de Compostela and maintains its protest of an “indefinite” nature. However, the group has announced that this Saturday it will hold an open assembly in which it will be decided whether the camp remains active, while, together with other Galician campouts, the option of a coordinated “campout de-escalation” across all of Galicia is being studied.

One of the members of the movement, C.B., has stated that the camp remains fully operational and that nearly 70 tents have already been set up in this green area of Vigo, known as the Alameda. As she has clarified, for now they are “calm,” maintain a “good relationship” with the Police, have the “support” of the Sub-delegation of the Government, and perceive no signs that a similar eviction could occur to the one at Puerta del Sol in Madrid.

“We’re not afraid. We’re organized, and we believe there won’t be any inconvenience,” she said, emphasizing that the treatment with the neighborhood in the surrounding area is positive and that many people come by to show their support with food and other supplies. “There’s a minority, which sometimes seems like it makes a lot of noise, but it’s absolutely not representative of the majority of the people in this city,” she added.

This campout has detailed that throughout the day, cleaning and internal organization tasks are carried out, as well as informational talks and various workshops. At this time, it indicated, much of the effort is focused on preparing for the general strike of November 11.

In Pontevedra, the Campout, during a press conference, has asserted the continued presence of its camp as a meeting place and for mutual support among neighbors, and called on people to join the strike to defend housing as “a right and not a business.”
