The mayor of Andoain, Andoni Álvarez Lete (EH Bildu), has reiterated that the training of Local Police agents of this Guipuzcoan municipality at the Guardia Civil barracks in Intxaurrondo “has not been a decision by the Mayor’s Office” and has insisted that the City Council does not support this action.

In a message circulated on his social networks, Álvarez Lete referred in this way to the course received by several municipal police officers from Andoain and Tolosa at the Intxaurrondo facilities, an initiative that has been harshly questioned by the PNV of Gipuzkoa, which has gone so far as to demand the resignation of the two EH Bildu mayors involved.

The first magistrate wanted to stress that this decision “has not been from the Mayor’s Office” and that, as he has emphasized, “we do not support it.” As he explained, since they learned of what had happened, they have “assumed the responsibility of gathering information about what occurred and providing explanations to citizens.”

“We are on it and, of course, we will take the appropriate measures,” Álvarez Lete added, who has demanded that “they stop using mayors and municipalities at the service of electoralist and partisan interests alien to the towns.”
