Acciona Energía has completed in Chile the design, execution, and commissioning of a network digitization project supported by artificial intelligence, with which the transmission capacity in the southern zone of the National Electric System (SEN) will be increased by 60%.
As detailed this Thursday by the company in a statement, the Transfer Control Automation will make it possible to add 239 GWh of additional wind generation to the grid, a volume comparable to the annual electricity consumption of 100,000 homes.
"This greater injection of renewable energy will help reduce the consumption of thermoelectric energy and its polluting emissions, reinforcing the positive impact of this solution on the electric system," summarized Acciona Energía.
The solution integrates digital and communication technologies that allow optimizing the operation of the Mulchén-Santa Clara 2x220kV and Santa Clara-Charrúa 2x220kV lines, located in the regions of La Araucanía and Biobío and managed by Transelec, Ferrovial, SAESA, CELEO, and Transmisora Sur Andes.
In the project, the generating companies Enel Green Power and WPD have also participated, and its operation has been validated through advanced simulations by the University of Santiago de Chile and the National Electric Coordinator.
