Aena has launched the bidding for the Project Management services contract for the actions that will mark the start of the expansion of the terminal building at Valencia Airport. The starting budget amounts to 19,749,315.55 euros and the expected execution period is 60 months.

This contract covers, on one hand, the comprehensive management of the remodeling and expansion project of the terminal, as well as the technical support in all phases and actions contemplated throughout the entire duration, as the company has stated in a statement.

In addition, it includes global management, direction, coordination, and monitoring of other interventions that will be carried out at Valencia Airport within the time frame of the contract, incorporating "collaboration in detecting the need, defining its scope, monitoring the drafting of the specifications or construction projects, bidding for the execution contracts, installing supplies, executing the works, and putting the new facilities and infrastructures into operation".

The start of the remodeling of Valencia Airport is included in the Airport Regulation Document (DORA III), the investment plan that Aena will deploy in the airport network during the period 2027-2031. In line with the philosophy of DORA, the actions will be oriented towards two main goals: "to provide the airport with the capacity to accommodate the future growth of its activity and to do so with a focus on quality, optimizing the experience of passengers and airlines".

The works will be executed in coherence with Aena's sustainability objectives, incorporating criteria of energy efficiency, decarbonization, adaptation to climate change, responsible use of resources, and reduction of environmental impacts in the design, construction, and operation phases of the new infrastructures.

Expected total investment for 2027-2031

For the period 2027-2031, a global investment of 402.1 million euros has been scheduled for Valencia Airport, aimed at various actions related to safety, maintenance, user comfort, and improving the quality of the Valencian airport infrastructure.

Among the main interventions framed in the remodeling of the airport stands out the comprehensive redistribution of its spaces, with more surface area and comfort for the implementation of new border control equipment for non-Schengen countries; the creation of new boarding gates with a jet bridge; a new security control equipped with devices that will allow not to extract liquids or electronic devices from hand luggage, and a substantial improvement of the accesses and parking areas. A significant increase in the space in the departures hall is also anticipated.

According to Aena, the improvement in the processes that passengers will notice will be "notable" in the security filter area (queue area), as well as in the waiting and boarding areas for both Schengen and non-Schengen. Likewise, the baggage claim area will increase the available surface area around the concourses and in the circulation areas.

The set of scheduled actions, including those that will be developed outside the main remodeling project, aims to "modernize the infrastructure by adapting it, among other things, to the new requirements of European security regulations to optimize operational processes and improve the levels of quality and safety of the service, for visitors, residents, companies, and workers."
