The company Anthropic, specialized in security and research in artificial intelligence and responsible for the AI model Claude, announced this Thursday the launch of its first office in Spain. The new delegation will be located in Madrid and will become its seventh European base, joining those already operational in London, Dublin, Paris, Zurich, Munich, and Milan.

The American company frames this move "in a context of strong demand" in the Spanish market and in a very rapid increase in the use of this technology in the country. According to the firm, Spain records an adoption rate of Claude 2.7 times higher than expected based on its population, according to the "Economic Index of Anthropic."

To lead this new office, Anthropic has appointed Cristina Pitarch as the person responsible for Spain, an executive with more than 15 years of experience in the technology sector at companies such as Google, Salesforce, and Informática. In her most recent position, Pitarch was general director for EMEA at Google Cloud Security.

"Spain is home to some of the largest companies in Europe and the most innovative startups; there are already teams using Claude in large-scale projects in the banking, aerospace, infrastructure, or travel sectors," Pitarch has pointed out.

The executive has also emphasized that the country meets the necessary requirements to "lead security in AI, not only in southern Europe but also as a reference for the entire Spanish-speaking world."

Adoption among large corporations and local alliances

Anthropic highlights that its artificial intelligence solutions are already used by large Spanish companies. Among them are financial entities such as Santander, CaixaBank, and BBVA; the operator Telefónica; the customer service group Konecta; the travel technology company Amadeus; the infrastructure group Ferrovial, and the technology and defense company Indra.

In the case of Telefónica, the operator uses Claude and Claude Code to streamline software development and strengthen its cybersecurity capabilities, allowing for early identification of vulnerabilities.

Ferrovial, for its part, employs this technology to support the design of complex civil engineering projects and automate various tasks, while Amadeus collaborates with Anthropic with the aim of making travel information more accessible in AI-based development environments.

With the opening of the new office, the company has also sealed a collaboration agreement with the business school ISDI Business School to promote the initiative "Ambassadors." This program is aimed at supporting local developers and founders through the celebration of meetings and events focused on the Claude ecosystem. Currently, Madrid has eight ambassadors who are part of this community.
