The work calendar for 2027 is starting to take shape. Workers will have up to 14 paid and non-recoverable holidays: 12 set between the State and the autonomous communities and another two determined by each municipality.
The definitive calendar for all of Spain has not yet been published in the Official State Gazette. Some communities have already approved their holidays, while others will have to decide which regional celebrations to incorporate and which breaks to move when a holiday falls on a Sunday.
National holidays of 2027
| Date | Day of the week | Holiday | Situation |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 1 | Friday | New Year's Day | National holiday |
| January 6 | Wednesday | Epiphany of the Lord | Must be confirmed in each regional calendar |
| March 26 | Friday | Good Friday | National holiday |
| May 1 | Saturday | Labor Day | National holiday |
| August 15 | Sunday | Assumption of the Virgin | Communities will decide whether to move the break |
| October 12 | Tuesday | National Day of Spain | National holiday |
| November 1 | Monday | All Saints | National holiday |
| December 6 | Monday | Constitution Day | National holiday |
| December 8 | Wednesday | Immaculate Conception | National holiday |
| December 25 | Saturday | Christmas | National holiday |
To these dates will be added the celebrations chosen by each autonomous community. Among them may be Holy Thursday, which in 2027 will be March 25, the specific days of each territory, and the substitutions authorized by labor legislation.
The main bridges of 2027
The distribution of holidays leaves several long weekends and possibilities for bridges, although the final result will depend on each community and municipality.
New Year's Day
January 1 will fall on a Friday. The first weekend of the year will therefore have three consecutive days of rest for those who work Monday to Friday.
Holy Week
Good Friday will be March 26. Communities that declare Holy Thursday, March 25, as a holiday will have four consecutive days of rest until Sunday the 28th.
October Bridge
October 12 will fall on a Tuesday. Those who can take Monday the 11th off will be able to link four days of rest from Saturday.
All Saints
November 1 will be a Monday, allowing for a three-day weekend without the need to request vacation.
December Bridge
December 6 will fall on a Monday and December 8 on a Wednesday. With a day off on Tuesday the 7th, five consecutive days of rest can be gathered, from Saturday the 4th to Wednesday the 8th.
| Period | Holiday | Days to request | Possible rest |
|---|---|---|---|
| January 1-3 | New Year | None | 3 days |
| March 25-28 | Holy Week | None where Holy Thursday is a holiday | 4 days |
| October 9-12 | National Holiday | Monday 11 | 4 days |
| October 30-November 1 | All Saints | None | 3 days |
| December 4-8 | Constitution and Immaculate | Tuesday 7 | 5 days |
Holidays that fall on the weekend
The 2027 calendar concentrates several celebrations on Saturday or Sunday. May 1 and December 25 will fall on Saturday, while August 15 will be Sunday.
The coincidence with a weekend does not automatically mean that all workers receive another day off. The transfer of certain holidays corresponds to the autonomous communities and possible compensations may depend on the official calendar, the collective agreement, the distribution of the workday, and the specific situation of the worker.
Aragón, for example, has approved moving the rest of the Assumption to Monday, August 16. This decision does not automatically apply to the rest of Spain.
How many holidays each worker has
Article 37.2 of the Workers' Statute establishes a maximum of 14 paid and non-recoverable public holidays per year. Of these, two have a local character.
The calendar is constructed at three levels:
- The State determines the national holidays and the common framework.
- The communities complete their 12 days and can make certain substitutions.
- The municipalities incorporate two local holidays.
Therefore, the labor calendar is not identical in Madrid, Catalonia, Andalusia, Galicia, or the Valencian Community. Even two municipalities in the same community can have different calendars due to their local holidays.
When the definitive labor calendar for 2027 is published
The complete national calendar will be known when the BOE publishes the resolution of the General Directorate of Labor with the list of holidays communicated by the autonomous communities.
Afterwards, the two local holidays approved by each municipality must be added. This piece will be updated as the autonomous calendars and the definitive resolution of the BOE are published.
