The board of directors of HP has unanimously decided to appoint Emma Walmsley as the new chief executive officer of the multinational. Her appointment will take effect on January 4, 2027, when she will take over from Bruce Broussard, who has served as interim chief executive officer since February 2026.
After the transition, Broussard will leave day-to-day executive management to assume the chairmanship of the board of directors of the technology company.
Walmsley, 57, was previously the chief executive officer of the pharmaceutical company GSK and served on the board of directors of Microsoft for seven years, amassing extensive experience in corporate leadership and in the technology sector.
"HP has enormous potential at a crucial moment for technology, and we need a leader who can build on our tradition of innovation and our strengths to boldly shape the company's future," Bruce Broussard said when announcing the handover at the top.
For her part, Emma Walmsley emphasized that "HP is an iconic company" with a key role in transforming the future of work worldwide, and said that she will focus her strategy on "harnessing the power of the AI era" and on directing HP's creativity and innovation toward new growth levers, with the aim of generating sustainable value for customers, shareholders, partners and employees.
