The orders of the German manufacturing industry rose in June by 3.1% compared to May, clearly surpassing the advance of 0.3% recorded the previous month after the revision of the initial data, according to provisional estimates published by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
If large volume orders are set aside, the new orders received by German factories in June were 0.5% lower than those of the previous month.
In comparison with June of last year, orders from the German industry experienced an increase of 6.5%, accelerating the pace compared to the 4.5% increase recorded in May.
In quarterly terms, a less volatile reference, new orders between April and June 2026 were 1.3% above the previous quarter. If large orders are excluded, new orders remained unchanged over the entire period.
The good performance of manufacturing orders in June is mainly explained by the strong advance of "machinery and equipment manufacturing (+12.7%)" and "manufacturing of computer, electronic and optical products (+22.7%)". Several companies in both segments reported large-scale orders.
Likewise, the "automotive industry (+3.8%)" provided an additional boost to the monthly figure.
Conversely, in the "manufacturing of other transport equipment (airplanes, ships, trains, military vehicles)", new orders fell by 41.7% compared to the high level of the previous month. However, Destatis clarifies that, for the moment, it only has partial information on large volume orders in this area for the provisional result of June.
By categories, new orders for "capital goods" advanced in June by 6.4% compared to May, while those for "consumer goods" grew by 4.2%. In contrast, new orders for "intermediate goods" decreased by 2.5%.
Regarding the origin of demand, "foreign orders" barely varied, with an increase of 0.2% in June: those from the eurozone fell by 14%, while "non-EU orders" increased by 10.2%. For its part, "domestic orders" rose by 7.8% in the month.
