Since this Wednesday, the olives of Campo Real have had approval for temporary national protection as a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), a step that allows this name to be used on products that meet the conditions set out while the European Commission decides on its definitive registration in the Community register.

This grant of protection appears in a resolution of the Directorate General for Agriculture released this Wednesday in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM), and it applies retroactively from June 23, 2026, the date on which Spain sent the formal application to the European Commission.

Thanks to this form of protection, processors that comply with the specifications will be able to sell and promote their products under the name "Aceitunas de Campo Real" throughout the entire national territory. However, until registration is completed at the European level, use of the Community logo for PGIs and the mentions or abbreviations reserved for designations already recognized in the EU will not be permitted.

The file began on December 30, 2025, when the managing entity submitted the request for registration of the name. After the national opposition period was completed, in which no admissible statements were filed, the Directorate General adopted a favorable resolution on May 12.

Temporary national protection will remain in force until the European Commission adopts a resolution on definitive registration or ends the procedure. The full specifications for the name can be consulted on the electronic headquarters of the Community of Madrid.
