The president of the Spanish Society of General and Family Physicians (SEMG), Dr. Pilar Rodríguez Ledo, announced this Thursday the details of the 2027 Congress, which will take place in Seville from June 17 to 19. The event will focus on the capacity of Family Medicine and Primary Care to respond to the present and future challenges of the National Health System (SNS).
The meeting, which will be held under the slogan "We Add Synergies in Health. Transforming the System from Family Medicine," will be the 33rd edition of the congress of this scientific society. Its objective is to highlight the strategic role of the first level of care to integrate knowledge, professionals, generations, and diverse perspectives, generating synergies that allow addressing the current and upcoming challenges of the healthcare system.
The chosen venue is the International Convention Center of Seville (SICC, for its acronym in English), where around 2,500 congress participants are expected to gather. This venue will concentrate the main scientific and training activities, although the congress will maintain a hybrid format that will combine in-person and virtual attendance.
Under the coordination of the president of SEMG Andalucía, Dr. Enriqueta Quesada, the Organizing Committee has designed a program based on the idea that health is built collectively. The proposal stems from the need to unite knowledge, skills, and goals among the different profiles that make up Primary Care, also incorporating the patient as an active agent in decision-making about their own health.
The congress will give a prominent role to resident internal doctors (MIR) and will promote exchange among different generations and professional fields. This integrative vision will also be reflected in the participation of professionals from hospitals, universities, Public Health, scientific societies, administrations, patient associations, and the community.
Knowledge, technology, and innovation in Primary Care
"Primary Care faces demanding times, but also a stage of great opportunities thanks to the available knowledge, new technologies, and the innovation capacity of its professionals," they have indicated from the Organizing Committee, which emphasizes that it aims to "contribute to promoting a culture based on adding instead of fragmenting, sharing instead of competing, and building instead of resigning."
The Scientific Committee, chaired by Dr. Manuel Niño Camacho, will be responsible for articulating a scientific proposal that combines updating, innovation, debate, and practical application. Without renouncing rigor, a very practical and useful orientation for daily consultation will be prioritized, so that each training activity provides a tool, a skill, evidence that can change practice, a question for analysis, or an idea with the potential to become a new project.
Before the congress, from June 7 to 11, the "SEMG Connect Week" will be held, an open congress format designed to expand the participation of other national and international scientific societies and universities. This initiative aims to generate new meeting spaces among professionals, even for those who are not registered for the main congress. In addition, the session on the 16th will kick off with the "UpDate MF," aimed at future generations of Family Doctors and focused on referral and interconsultation criteria in the main areas of knowledge.
The program, which will also include parallel community activities, is organized around three major training itineraries. The "Clinical" axis will focus on updating on pathologies, diagnosis, and treatment, with content prior to the congress, updating courses, and a "SEMG Technological HUB." The "Technological" itinerary will address digital innovation, new devices, telemedicine, and artificial intelligence (AI). For its part, the "Transversal of the Specialty" block will address issues of bioethics, communication, teaching, leadership, community health, rural medicine, cooperation, equity, and sustainability.
The congress will also strengthen its international dimension, in order to promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and good practices with professionals and organizations from other countries. Among the organizational novelties is the "Skills Saturday," a day with predominantly practical workshops, focused on techniques and procedures of direct utility for daily clinical practice.
