The Chinese Executive has confirmed this Wednesday that it maintains talks with the United States and Russia to study the holding of a trilateral summit of their presidents during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum meeting (APEC, for its English-language acronym), which will take place this month in the city of Shenzhen.

As reported by the official Xinhua agency, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, said that "China maintains communication with the relevant parties about a meeting between the leaders of China, Russia and the United States," although for the moment there is no definitive confirmation that the three-way meeting will be carried out on Chinese territory.

These statements come a day after Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov indicated in an interview with the British newspaper 'Financial Times' that "work is already underway to organize that meeting," without providing for now any further details about the planned format or agenda.

As part of the APEC summit, it is scheduled for the president of the United States, Donald Trump, to travel to Shenzhen within two weeks to take part in the meeting and hold a bilateral meeting with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, which will be the third that both will hold in 2026. In addition, a possible face-to-face meeting between Xi and the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, is also being considered.

Putin himself was already in favor last October 21 of holding a joint meeting with Trump and Xi to address the war in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East --"in reference to the conflict unleashed by the offensive launched in February by the United States and Israel against Iran"--, taking advantage precisely of the APEC leaders' summit, set for November 18 and 19.
